12 October,2021- One of my close friend posted a video on Instagram. It was a simple trend - open to creative imagination of the creator.
The moment I saw her video, I knew I could recreate it and post it on my page. So i did. I used the audio and made a very simple, unplanned
video on something that was new - personalized poems. It's true when people say the best things happen at the most unexpected times.
2 days later, the video went viral.
14 October, 2021- I got my first order of writing a personalized poem. She wanted a poem for her best friend. I still remember that day- my
happiness knew no bounds. I earned my first 150INR through freelancing that day. All I would say is thankyou Deeksha (not revealing the original name
due to privacy concerns) for believing and considering me capable enough to write for your best friend.
Since that day, I received a bunch of orders and queries. A couple of days later I posted another video that went viral bringing in more
orders. I was happy, nervous, excited and proud of myself. I started enjoying my work. It's been 10 months since I have been working - making
videos, writing poems, doing everything in my capacity and I today (27.07.22) I completed a milestone of 50 orders. These 10 months were truly a roller
coaster. There were days I was escalated, days when I was low and days when I felt nothing. It's a part of life, I guess.
Thank you to those who supported me in every way- the ones who watched my videos, the ones who got personalized poems for their loves ones,
the ones who watched me cry on my worst days and the ones who believed in me.
Thank you.
There are so many milestones to achieve but the first ones are always special na?
Sharing some lessons that I learnt in these 9 months that may help/inspire you -
1- Consistency: I have been posting literally everyday since jan 22 and I have seen results to an extent that 90% of my videos
have more views than my follower count which is a good thing. My account is being discovered by new people and my face value
is increasing.
2- It is not as easy as it looks: Before starting iinto the skies i would wonder why some small businesses are charging 160 for shipping while others
are charging 70? One day I went to the local courier shop to ship a package to Assam and he charged 786!!! The package
was priced at 499 and the shipping was 786. Major loss. That day I realised its not easy as it looks from the outside. Similarly when
fellow business owners posted videos online I thought they must be getting good amount of orders until I realised that more views/
followers dont always mean more sales. There is so much more to it.
3- Dont let self doubt over power you: This can be difficult. Self doubt is a constant when you are trying to do something different. But
the moment you let it over power you lose half the battle. Dont let anyone tell you that you are not capable. YOU ARE CAPABLE AND YOU CAN DO IT.
4- Network with as many people as possible- A must thing. The more you network, the more you meet new people and the more
you learn. Make relationships that are long lasting in your professional life. I have made some amazing friends and I hope you make too.
5- It's not a piece of cake. Things take time- Freelancing/ entrepreneurship life looks too fancy right. It's not, especially when you are just starting. Breakdowns,
anxiety attacks, self doubt and peer pressure takes over you. When 2 of my videos went viral in the early stage, I thought life's sorted. I will post more videos,
I will get orders and things will fall into place. I wish it did. None of my videos crossed even 10k after october '21. Consistency and Perseverance is all that it takes.
I hope you find it helpful. I cant thank you enough for reading this newsletter.
With Love,
G.
